Luigi Rossanigo was born in 1948 in Pieve del Cairo in lower Lomellina where Lombardy and Piedmont interpenetrate in terms of topography, history and culture. He still lives and works here.
The first approaches to painting and to a lesser extent sculpture date back to the mid-1960s and the subjects are figurative. A few years and from the early '70s, he moved towards the informal, starting that spatial research whose results would be seen twenty years later. For the rest of the 70s after a brief "poverist" experience and for the entire decade of the 80s his attention was towards the development of surrealist themes both in painting, graphics and sculpture, with flattering results for originality and clarity of signs.
Starting from 1989, his association with artists from Carrara (Luciano Massari in particular) definitely oriented him towards sculpture. From there the acquired familiarity with the sculptural masses means that he returns to the ancient discussions of manipulation of the canvas which have produced the current expressive trend in which the languages of painting and sculpture interpenetrate.
