About the author
Mr. B.Maruthi [B.1954] who hails from Hospet and now settled in Dharwad, is a Post Graduate in Political Science. He did not go to any art school or academy but took up painting as a vacation. Shy and modest he does not belong to any school and claims non of his own. The term Romantic, obstract, Portrait, Folk or symbolism may describe some of his works but does not describe the artist fully
B.Maruthi is a mature artist leaving behind his earlier tentative approach and gaining a considerable mastery over perspective. At display are his recent paintings, broadly divided into four categories, namely Nature, Folk, Singing Rocks [Hampi] Obstract series. Water, Rocks, Trees and Sky are the four elements which dominate his Nature Series, Nature is never still in real life and never still or dull in Maruthi`s paintings, The Hampi Series depicts only a few adamant stones defying time and not the majestic ruins familiar to the tourist eye. But all of them seem to sing, sometimes lament and at other times a lagend. The Folk paintings are mostly tribal in character with a surprisingly bright green background, in Obstract Series wonderful defferent colours attract our mind and soul.
Mr. Maruthi has held several Exhibitions, solo as well as group and his many paintings collected by institutions and private collectors, He is active in the field and has contributed a lot to further the cause of art in this part of Karnataka, in recognition of which he was awarded Rajyotsava Award in 1998 by Hubli - Dharwad Corporation and honoured by many recognised institutions.
