Rosario Tortorella è nato Reggio Calabria il 28 novembre 1964.
Ha svolto studi classici ed umanistici, è laureato in Giurisprudenza, è un avvocato e dirigente penitenziario. E’ sposato ed ha due figli. Ha vissuto e svolto la sua attività in numerose città italiane da Firenze a Roma, da Paola (CS) a Palmi (RC), da Reggio Calabria a Viterbo, dall’Isola d’Elba a Catania, attingendo da ogni luogo e dall’umanità in ciascuno di essi presente, occasioni di riflessione e di elaborazione artistica.
La sua attività creativa ha una storia che trae linfa vitale sin dall’età giovanile, periodo di istruzione non solo scolastica ma anche, e soprattutto, formativa, caratterizzato dalla sua passione per il disegno e la pittura, per i quali ha da subito mostrato naturale propensione. Da bambino ha cominciato a dipingere imparando a tenere il pennello e a impiegare i colori alla bottega del Maestro e poeta dialettale reggino Alfredo Emo. Attraverso l’uso di svariate tecniche artistiche e soprattutto attraverso la pittura trova via di sviluppo e di espressione il suo io narrante.
E’ la vita che gli regala occasioni di riflessione sull’umanità attraverso l’arte pittorica. In essa trovano espressione i sentimenti, le passioni, le derive, i sogni e le paure che da sempre accompagnano l’uomo, attraverso la teatralizzazione delle sue figure che vivono in una dimensione onirica.
La sua produzione artistica è rimasta a lungo riservata sino a quando, nel 2009, il bisogno di comunicare lo hanno portato a renderla pubblica. Ha così iniziato ad esporre al pubblico in occasione di numerose mostre ed eventi.
