Cathy Doutreligne is a contemporary French artist. Transitioning from a series of descriptive still lifes, which function as veritable portraits through signs, Doutreligne introduces a new body of work titled "Plages Places Plaines." In these compositions, she immerses viewers in a suspended, translucent expanse that evokes the diverse moments of the day when sea, sky, and landscape seamlessly merge.

Within this boundless space, small silhouettes come to life, creating a mesmerizing tapestry of shadows and colors. These figures, resembling bathers, summer visitors, and passers-by, are meticulously arranged to form lines of force and repeating motifs. Each canvas becomes a canvas of ever-changing melodies, much like notes on a scale, as the elements coalesce into harmonious compositions.

Upon closer inspection, the observer discovers a world of bathers, summer sojourners, and wanderers, seemingly oblivious to each other yet united in the vast landscape "as one." Cathy Doutreligne invites a dual gaze - both near and far - encouraging viewers to scrutinize the individuality of each figure while appreciating the collective unity they contribute to the scene.

Doutreligne's precision in capturing movements, attitudes, and gestures is evident, but her true fascination lies in the aesthetics of the situation and its pictorial stakes. The interplay of luminous contrasts through the variety of characters becomes the focal point, with each figure serving as both a source of shadow and a conduit for light.

In this new series, Cathy Doutreligne presents her interpretation of the same space, each iteration distinct and reinvented. The accumulation of elements becomes a visual symphony, with clean lines and enduring sensuality. Each character appears to hold a unique story, yet all these narratives dissolve into the infinite landscape. The infinitely small becomes infinitely large, inviting viewers to contemplate the interconnectedness of individual stories within the grandeur of an expansive world.
