Nadezhda Shamkova is a Russian artist, born in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, in
1990. She did not intend to become an artist from her childhood. Nadezhda
grew up in a family that is not concerned with art. She graduated from Rostov
State Economic University and works as a corporate client manager.
Once Nadezhda watched an online tutorial on pastels and she really wanted to
draw the same picture. She wanted to know all the possibilities the pastel had.
She liked the process so much that she decided not to stop and took several
courses in drawing and painting.
Since then, Nadezhda can’t help painting. Her favorite media are pastel and
acrylic. Pastel attracts her with its bright colors and transparency of the layers,
which help to create unusually luscious still lives. Each drawing is like a
message of good news for her. They give a perfect mood to the artist and the
viewer and distract from sad thoughts.
Lately, Nadezhda has taken up acrylic and been impressed by the effect of
surprise created with water drips. With the density of brush strokes, Nadezhda
tries to bring contrast to the texture of her abstract paintings, where color and
textural opposites help her to express the meaning of her art.
Creating abstract landscapes is meditation and total immersion for the artist. It is
the abstraction that helps her to convey the fragility of the environment. Each
stroke of paint is superimposed with feeling unsteadiness and the extremities of
being.
Nadezhda is concerned with the problem of ecology and the protection of
natural wealth. Therefore, she uses the contrast of bright pure colors and dingy
gray streaks in her paintings. She wants to transfer to humanity the idea of the
need to protect our planet, the fragility of its existence, and the impossibility of
staying away from the burning issues of ecology.
Inspired by the transparent landscapes of Rick Stevens, the bright still lives of
Matisse and Cézanne, inheriting the richness of the Petrov-Vodkin palette, Nadezhda Shamkova creates visual images of the world around her and
continues to experiment with media.
Her artworks are in private collections in the USA, Great Britain, European countries and Russia.
