Colorful BURANO...interesting houses..maisons,..cases..casas started plein air during my most recent trip to Venice. Mixed media including India Ink (encre de Chine)..watercolors,aquarelles,acryliques,Faber Castell European Watercolor Pencils and charcoal on very large Strathmore Bristol smooth surface paper.

If you look closely you will see the 2 plump women returning from the market. This street was along a small canal and oddly reminded me of a certain neighborhood of my hometown,Philadelphia,PA near the Italian Market. The only difference is the houses are painted more colorful in Burano and there are no canals in South Philadelphia! But..if you like cheesesteaks..that is where they were 'invented' in the 1930's.

Oil

Painting Pastel

Pastel is an instrument widely used in plastic arts. Taking the form of a colored plastic stick, it is composed of pigments, a filler (chalk or plaster) and a binder (gum arabic, oil, wax). We mainly distinguish fatty pastels (oil or wax), dry pastels, whether soft or hard.
