Les iles de Lérins - l'ile Ste Marguerite (1963) Painting by Jean-Claude Chatain

Born in 1946 in Paris area Jean-Claude CHATAIN is noticed very early by his professors of art who direct it towards the School of Beautiful Arts of Paris. Its family refusing that it devotes a career to it it is in hiding-place that it paints its first fabrics. From this period there remain only two works "the embrumé channel" and "the islands of Lérins", the others having been given. Biophysicist diplomé it marries in 1969 with Claudine HERNANDEZ who incites it to take again painting, but he is taken too much by his occupation and produced little. In 1986 it meets the CARA-MADRE painter and is tested with various techniques. It is not that in 1991 following its meeting with painter HELME emulates BABOULENE which it decides to devote to his art.They work together during 3 years. This period several works will leave of which the series of the "streets" of village. It exposes for the first time in 2003 in Yvelines in company of HELME and BABOULENE "HELME and its friends painters" and organizes his first exposure in February 2005 to HOUDAN in Yvelines. It receives an excellent criticism of the press and carries out its first sales (8 fabrics out of 30 exposed).
Between 2004and 2006 he has troubles in his family and his job. So his life and art are affected. Demolition with a come back to the base life elements give him the input to rebuilt in a new way.
.Mecanis'homme and Feminity are two pieces giving an idea of his mind at that moment where he was renewing with modern influence (Picasso) he learnt when he was young. This passage was "essential to survive" as he said and he was testing new technics and colours he never used before.
