Sa démarche est centrée sur la trituration des matériaux et des structures afin de suggérer plus que de représenter une forme, un objet, voire un lieu. Il lâche ses gestes. Il est entre l'abstraction figurative et l'abstraction pure. Ses toiles exécutées exclusivement au couteau sont monochromes, faites de reliefs, coulures et superpositions.

Using black, the ultimate colour, the work of Jan Meier is unified through the expression and manipulation of matter. Focusing on structure as a means to suggest rather than depict, he is precise in intent, but loose in gesture. Executed with a palette knife, the grand scale works explore monochrome with thick drippings and overlapping textures resulting in earthy relieves. The tridimensional painting is a backdrop for emotion, morphing abstraction into a subtle figurative condition.
