Je voulais créer différemment,cette envie m'avait travaillé toute la nuit, je ne voulais plus faire de contour avec du remplissage, terminé le coloriage. Même si je ne savais comment faire, le visage fort et déterminé de cette jeune femme me paraissait idéal pour privilégier l'émotion avant l'exactitude du trait.
L'incertitude maladive des artistes à fait que cette oeuvre a failli partir à la poubelle... heureusement qu'un de mes clients est passé ce jour là et m'a indiqué préférer ce type de travail à mes portraits habituels façon Montmartre.

My intention was to create in a totally different way. An idea had been brewing in my mind all night long. I no longer wanted to sketch out the contours of a subject matter and subsequently fill in the drawing with colours. Enough with colouring. Even if, at first, I had no precise idea of how to proceed, I felt that the strong and determined face of this young woman was somehow ideal to start implementing this new technique. The technique favours an approach based on a sense of emotion rather than the exactness of the features depicted. As we artists, tend to be bogged down by doubts, this painting almost ended up in the junk pile…. Fortunately a client who one day had turned up in my studio declared when seeing the painting that he much preferred this type of work than the more conventional portraits « Montmartre » style.
