« The Next Table » is based on the same concept as « Bergamote ». This painting is an artful combination of still life and a vivid lively scene. Inspiration for it came from the restaurant « Le bigorneau langoureux » by the Pier on the Isle of Batz. Despite the fact that the faces have deliberately been left featureless, the scene is full of details. The characters’ body langage is enhanced by the artistic technique applied. This technique consists in scratching the thick coat of paint to highlight the importance of texture, while still focusing on the subject. The evocative maritime atmosphere is conveyed by the details in the background, along with the specific choice of colours.
