“ The Rise of the Glimmering “ is an original steel sculpture created by Scott Wilkes. She was made by welding thousands of small steel rods together and then embellished with chains for hair. She stands 42.5 inches tall and is 23.5 inches wide at her widest point and is 12 inches deep. She weighs roughly 50 pounds. She is mounted on a steel plate so she can stand tall and strong. She is the third piece in my series “ My demons and the ones of the world “

To me the artist : She is the virus, the witch queen of social media , the one I dub “the glimmering “. In vampire lore a vampire can “glamour” a human which allows the vampire to trick the human in to either seeing something thats not there or not see something that is. The glamour can make a glass of blood look like water and even taste like it… but its a trick. The Glimmering is far worse,, Instead of the this deception being done to a single person she does it on a global scale. Through use of the internet she spins her web of deception,, why do you think its called the world wide WEB ? With all sorts of ways to ensnare you.Her specialty is vanity and ripping the bonds of humans and the destruction of truth. Her faceless vortex is designed to draw you in, separate you from others, break down your ability to know truth from lies and to seed your vanity and distrust. Her arms stretched out as though she wants to softly embrace you and comfort you is only half true. She wants to embrace you, but smother you and make you part of her deception. Social media is her poison of choice. Feeding the breakdown of trust and compassion, truth and human contact. She with her sparkling ways sickens us as a species, divides us, separates us and makes us view each other as enemies or threats. She has eroded our ability meet organically giving us matchmaking sites instead. She defiles us daily with her favorite weapon of all… Facebook. Here she weaves envy, and insecurity and excites hateful behavior. She tells some of us one thing and others another to splinter the fabric of humanity. She has been patient,, but her time is here,, it HAS been here,, YOU are part of the RISE OF THE GLIMMERING…With each click of the mouse, or each swipe left or right she steals a bit of your being. With each “ like “ or “dislike “ she binds you with her silk. She is a faceless witch inside the machine DESIGNED to ensnare you and bind you to the web so you can slowly be drained of the essence of being human and slowly be turned in to a machine. A machine that can be programed by her benefactors, and those who control them. You see the witch everyday and all around you if you look hard through her spell.. Its hard but it can be done.

Scott was born in the early 70s on the east coast. Son to a chemical engineering professor and a school teacher. After bouncing around many states and even more cities Scott landed on his own in Austin Texas at the age of 17. He attended college by day and created leatherwork by night. The leatherwork lead to a show that was created basically by accident to feature his work in a fashion show. He then wrote, directed and performed in that show on on a weekly basis for 14 years. Then life changed dramatically due to a family tragedy and the show closed and Scott went to work as a roughneck welder for the next 10 years. While raising his daughter alone on a shoestring budget he began to sculpt with scrap steel from the shop to cope and keep busy.  He is self taught and  has been sculpting now for about 5 years and his primary subject is the female form. His goal is to take the chaos of a rigid medium thats cold, hard and sharp and pattern it in to soft flowing forms , smooth to the touch that convey warmth and emotion.
