Green shadow of the trees
The hidden life of trees by Peter Wohlleben
The colour gap in chlorophyll is also responsible for another phenomenon: green shadows. If beeches allow no more than 3 per cent of sunlight to reach the forest floor, it should be almost dark down there during the day. But it isn’t, as you can see for yourself when you take a walk in the forest. Yet hardly any other plants grow here. The reason is that shadows are not all the same colour. Although many shades of colour are filtered out in the forest canopy-for example, very little red and blue make their way through-this is not the case for the “trash” colour green. Because the trees can’t use it, some of it reaches the ground. Therefore, the forest is transfused with a subdued green light that just happens to have a relaxing effect on the human psyche.

Isabelle Stagg is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in printmaking, primarily relief and printmaking techniques, including photo printmaking.

Inspired by the beauty of the South of France, she saw the immense richness of these landscapes, which led her to record through photography and the fine arts this magical encounter. Crossing the hills of Provence, the local diversity of vegetation with its natural cycles offers an infinite choice to compose and shape new structures. His work is a union of everything in this environment. The ink drawing required an intimate connection and observation with the subject to portray and reveal detail and a sense of wholeness together.

Isabelle Stagg lives and works in Hyère (France). Graduated from the University of the West of England in 2001 with a "Bachelor of Arts with Honours" in Fine Art. She received the Rebecca Smith Award from the Faculty of Fine Arts in her senior year. Followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Art & Design Secondary Education also at the University of the West of England in Bristol, UK. She is a teacher, then Leader and responsible for the program and management of the Art & Design department in a school in the South West of England.
