These succulent plants are native in the regions of South America such as Trinidad, Guianas and Venezuela. It has its name from the bright red flattened spike that grows from the middle of the foliage that grows in a rosette. I photographed this plant in Kew Gardens in London. I enhanced the colours to produce this botanical painting which ended up quite abstract.

I aim to bring forth feelings of happiness and positive energy with my colourful watercolour paintings inspired by nature. I paint what I see and see the natural world around me as an extension of my inner self. As a visually impaired artist, caused by a condition called blepharospasm, my latest paintings focus more on colour harmonies and overall feel of the subject rather than details. After two years of hopelessness I managed to get back into painting and I found great comfort in doing so. Although I had many years of art education both in my native Hungary and here in the UK, I am a self-taught watercolorist.
