This work is based on a scene I witnessed in 2013 in Mexico, exactly in San Cristóbal de las Casas in the state of Chiapas. In the street, four children are grouped together at a public bench. These children are forced to work as shoe shiners, a practice that is unfortunately still too common in Mexico. It is then that I realise that the tallest of the four is about to shine the shoes of one of his companions. Having never seen him afterwards, I never really knew if this was a ritual between shoe-shiners but, for me, it was something unique that I had to immortalise on a painting. When I painted on my canvas, I imagined, little by little, that these children, who were probably left to their own devices, had someone to protect them, and that we, as Westerners, could not see. I personified this protection with UV paint by a female entity like a goddess, a mother, behind the bench, protecting these lost children.

Art in general has always played a major role in my life. I've been drawing, sculpting and playing music since I was a child. I've always had a passion for classical painting, particularly the chiaroscuro style, and since 2013 I've been practising painting on a self-taught basis as an extra-professional activity. My main aspirations can be summed up as follows: to capture a moment in life that has touched me, and to convey a message more or less directly, sometimes leading to scenes that are purely imaginary. Now that you know a little more about me, I'd like to welcome you to my world!
