Gilles Francescano
Born on 05/12/66 in NICE.
Since 1989, he has devoted himself to Fantastic Art with images mixing Science Fiction, poetry and horror. His paintings are used for publishing novels, computer games or video films. To date, he has produced more than 300 covers or publications for publishers such as "J'AI LU", "Fleuve Noir", "l'Atalante" "Descartes Games", Infogrames including the game "ALONE IN THE DARK" or the film "WAXWORK".
His illustrations, often exhibited in France and abroad, have earned him numerous awards such as
The Golden Airbrush 96 in Germany,
The "European Science Fiction Grand Prix" in 93 in Jersey
The "World Science Fiction Grand Prix" in 95 in Glasgow
He directed the Mine de Rien section devoted to illustrators for the monthly" Science Fiction Magazine"
Since 2000, he has been the president of the ART&FACT association bringing together professional illustrators working in Science Fiction or Fantasy, including Manchu, Caza, Florence Magnin, John Howe and Marc Caro.
He currently directs the column "strokes of pencil" in the monthly film "L'screen Fantastique".
Since 2002 He has been artistic advisor to the Nantes International Science Fiction Festival" UTOPIAL".
Since 2006 he has been artistic adviser to the "les imaginales" festival in Epinal.
For a few years, he devoted himself to works in volume in which the spectator is completely immersed: the cube Carré de Soi, in homage to the novel by Ayerdhal and Dunyach "Stars Dying", the passengers of the Phantom Train presented in Nantes in 2001 or THE TUNNEL presented at the Utopiales 2002, 6 m long resin creation.
In May 2004, he produced the poster for the "les imaginales" festival in Epinal and presented a retrospective exhibition "15,000 nights of images" at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Epinal.
From July 2004 to August 2004 he participated in the exhibition "Thank you for not feeding the artists" at the Museum of Science Fiction in Yverdon les Bains in Switzerland. Interactive exhibition where the visitor is immersed in the heart of the studio of five science fiction artists, the artists creating live during visits to the museum.
Retrospective exhibition entitled "Fifteen years of fantasy and science fiction illustrations" at the ICONOCASE gallery in Chateauneuf de Mazenc (26) from March 11 to June 11, 2005.
Gilles Francescano now lives in the Drôme and devotes himself to illustration and various projects ranging from comics to illustrated books.

Pendant quelques années, il se consacre à des oeuvres en volume dans lesquelles le spectateur est entièrement immergé : le cube Carré de Soi, en hommage au roman d'Ayerdhal et Dunyach “Etoiles Mourantes”, les passagers du Train Phantôme présentés à Nantes en 2001 ou LE TUNNEL présenté aux Utopiales 2002, réalisation en résine de 6 m de long.
En Mai 2004, Il réalise l'affiche du festival "les imaginales "à Epinal et présente une exposition rétrospective « 15.000 nuits d’images » au Musée d’Art contemporain d’Epinal.
De juillet 2004 à août 2004 il participe à l'exposition "Merci de ne pas nourrir les artistes" au Musée de la science fiction à Yverdon les bains en Suisse. Exposition interactive où le visiteur est plongé au cœur de l'atelier de cinq artistes de science fiction, les artistes créant en directe durant les visites du musée.
Exposition rétrospective intitulée « Quinze ans d’illustrations de fantastique et de science fiction » à la galerie ICONOCASE à Chateauneuf de Mazenc (26) du 11 mars au 11 juin 2005.
Gilles Francescano vît aujourd’hui dans la Drôme et se consacre à l’illustration et divers projets allant de la bande dessinée au livre illustré.
