Reflet 4 (2021) Sculpture by Frédéric Louvier

After a stay at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Lyon, I studied art history in the capital of the Gauls. During this period, painting was my exclusive medium of expression with about fifteen exhibitions in a short period of time.

The painting,
First, it was a figurative painting, surrealist tendency, mainly characters ... Then the figures underwent deformations while remaining realistic. Then there was a shift towards abstraction, first by "shattering" the characters, then making them disappear completely.
Discovery of ceramics,
Very quickly, I had the feeling of traveling, of experiencing several periods in the history of art in a few years. Then I discovered ceramics and very quickly, the need to make sculptures emerged. A series of heads, pots, fish, Buddhas… have emerged. In addition to this, you need to know more about it.


The series,
The very first series is that of "cartoon heads", they are scale one heads, designed from local soil engobed. After a first firing, a drawing is made using an enamel pencil, then 2 or even up to 5 fires are necessary before satisfaction ... The head is the support, like canvases or sheets of paper. The face is meditative, peaceful surface. So what is hidden in the depths can be traced back ... Drawings, barely legible writings, lines ... it expresses itself, it prints itself ...
The following series keep the meditative face, which remains for me this mystery which is hidden in the heart of the human being.
