"I love fake news" by Franz Huempfner, 2021, political graphics art.

Do artistic creators in the 21st century have the exclusive task of making the beautiful, pleasing, decorative and apolitical the subject of their art products? Art as a lifestyle attribute for home furnishings? Or don't the man-made catastrophes of the present virtually demand that political processes be critically accompanied? The artist as a seismograph for disaster?

Politicians incessantly use images to create narratives that serve their own interests. They deliberately manipulate their voters with iconic self-dramatizations. The artist Franz Huempfner takes up these image phrases and responds to them with a critical counter phrase. To do so, he uses the stylistic devices of pop art.

Former American President Trump liked to stage himself with symbolic attributes as a fervent patriot. When he kissed the American flag, this action was spread around the world millions of times with press photos. These photos shaped the collective inner image about this president in wide circles of the population. Franz Huempfner's artwork contrasts the suggested patriotism in the original photo with a possible faked love of country for manipulating his political supporters. In doing so, the artist distances himself from the original press photo in terms of content and form in order to expose underlying intentions and structures. The text "I love fake news" allows for ambiguous interpretations. The abstracted press image with its associated narrative is placed in a new context.

Franz Hümpfner is a well-known photographer. He always tries to convey the reality hidden behind the visible world through his photographs. For him, a camera is a tool for his artistic work, similar to how a painter uses brushes and paint to create his works.

He employs both analog and digital techniques. "A photograph requires the feel of paper," he says, adding that "the fleeting representation on the screen cannot convey the sensual quality of a photograph." He also creates Zen or Wabisabi photography, which can express themes such as the beauty, transience, and imperfection of everything that exists particularly well due to its simplicity. He also discussed this type of photography theoretically in his book "Photoartfolio 1 - Wabi Sabi Photography."

According to Franz Hümpfner, "A limited edition print has the same artistic quality as an open edition photograph. A photograph with artificial limitations has the quality of a stock that is speculating on rising value." This is the reason why he offer his photography in an open edition.
