I come from Cornwall, right next to the sea. The salt, the spray, the waves, the wind, a lot of wind and yes, the rain, horizontal rain.

The wind up there is as strong as here, even more violent. The raw elements. Its something that has always impressed me.
Man and plants struggling against the elements touches me, elements at times totally out of control.

I used to collect and sculpt driftwood from the beaches. I've always enjoyed working with wood.

We fetched up here near to Narbonne in 2004, somewhat on a whim, driven by the wind and a sense of adventure. I was immediately struck by the countryside, the dryness, the heat, the blue, blue sky, the dust, the flowers, the intensity of the light, the colours and, the wind, yet again the wind. A landscape of such diversity, enormously inspiring.
