What inspired the work?
The paintings of the German artist Gerhard Richter in which he appropriated photographs of magazines and books, turning into faded contemporary paintings.
What do you expect your viewers to feel/think?
I hope the viewer understand this painting is a kind of Robert Filliou's imaginary anti-portrait. Filliou was a French artist who make part of the Fluxus movement in the 60s's.
Filliou was the creator of the "Le galerie légitime" (The legitimate gallery) in 1964. This artwork is a kind of "imaginary commercial art gallery", founded in a brain of anyone and marked by a hat. My idea was create a series of Filliou's portraits that connect with the narrative of "the artists who create their own exhibition spaces".
I really like this painting because it is an impossible Filliou's portrait, the point of view is totally wrong and you do not see his face, but his neck. This makes the painting mysterious.
Why did you choose the medium, the theme, the style?
I love oil painting. It is a very special technique in which the artist takes a long time to obtain good results. I started "The Paintings Section From Davis Museum" around 2011 and I still learning. Oil paintings can be kept in very good condition over time: they can withstand centuries.
I only use the best materials for my paintings: linen canvas and Old Holland oil paintings.
