Biography
Cécile Devezeaux de Lavergne is a contemporary French sculptor. Her artistic approach combines the concrete with the spiritual in the direct wood carving.
The artist penetrates with her gouges into the third dimension of the essence of wood in a spirit of openness, research and adventure. The direct carving makes it possible to clear a path in accordance with the material in order to reach the authenticity and the essence of his research. The direct carving of wood takes place in a kind of active meditative trance, creative energy, in rhythm with the organic growth of matter in order to extract the essence of the subject. From this path emerge the "first" forms reformulated in synergy with wood. This is how her sculptures are born.
Cécile Devezeaux de Lavergne was born in 1967, in Paris, where studied the practice of artistic wood sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts. She has exhibited in France and won 2nd prize for contemporary art Société d’Entraide aux Métiers d’Art in 2003 in Paris. Today she sculpts in a workshop within the association Art Mature in Paris.

Dans son travail de sculpture sur bois, la matière s'impose. Grâce au processus de la taille directe, Cécile Devezeaux de Lavergne entre en harmonie par la coordination de ses mouvements sur la matière naturelle, vivante, à la texture et l'odeur si particulières. Elle découvre au fur et à mesure des coups de gouge comment a poussé l’arbre dont elle sculpte une partie. La beauté de ses veines, le sens de son fil, la densité et la couleur déclenche l'inspiration. La sculpteure, avec le plus grand respect pour la matière, interagit avec ses outils manuels pour dialoguer en harmonie avec la matière. Une relation intense naît au cœur de la matrice, chargée de vie, de sens et d'histoire. Le bois s'affirme en offrant bien des surprises (fissures, sens des fibres…) et ce sont ses formes accidentelles, mêlées à la recherche spirituelle créatrice, qui exprimeront la dramaturgie, les richesses et les subtilités du monde réel. L’Art et la Nature sont conçus dans un rapport d’imitation, de représentation réciproque qui se renverse sans cesse. Qui de la Nature ou de l’Art l’emporte sur l’autre ?
