Brigitte Boulanger has been an Illuminator Painter in Gif sur Yvette for a dozen years now after having practiced calligraphy and watercolour.
Her training is primarily classical, an introduction to the techniques of illumination from the Middle Ages that she acquired during many hours of training in class and in internship with professionals and with monks.
Her inspiration has now diversified and she can find her resources in different cultures , oriental, Indian, aboriginal which enrich her creations.
Her supports remain mainly parchment, calfskin, goatskin and goatskin and she lays gold leaf flat or in relief on the patterns she has chosen.
She paints with tempera with her colors from vegetable, mineral, animal pigments with extremely fine sable brushes. She likes to make and condition the pigments herself: Green iris, Cochineal, Brazilian Rose, Turmeric, Lampblack, as well as inks, binders and gilding mixtures.
Her works are produced either in the form of paintings or in works of art (bookmarks, jewelry, mirror, paperweight, decorative objects)
She participates in many art fairs and events where she leads introductory workshops, especially for children. She also offers courses in her Traces d'Or workshop in Gif sur Yvette for people wishing to discover and learn about this art.
She works to order, especially for the very popular initials.
