Insectes sociaux, dont les colonies sont formées de reine(s) (ou femelles), de mâles, et d'ouvrières qui n'ont pas de rôle pour la reproduction.
- les abeilles font des nids à rayons (hexagones) dans les trous d'arbres ou dans les ruches.
- les bourdons font des nids rudimentaires, souterrains (anciens nids de souris par exemple). Les bourdons que l'on voit voler par une belle journée d'hiver sont des femelles (reines), seules à hiberner.
Chez les abeilles, seuls, les mâles (faux-bourdons) n'hibernent pas (ils sont tués par les ouvrières, en automne.) Mœurs d'insectes, à ne rapprocher en aucun cas avec ceux de notre espèce ...!
