Benoit Mortreux is a French artist photographer, born in 1969. Based in Vannes, he is distinguished by his permanent quest to capture the ephemeral moment, floating between dream and reality. His works bear witness to his deep questioning: "How to stop the moment that escapes? How to blur the barrier between dream and reality?" To answer these questions, Benoit chose the medium of photography, an art that he considers to be a bridge between extremes.
The beginning of his career saw him travel to distant lands, in search of landscapes and faces that embody the union of dreams and reality. His camera, an extension of his curious gaze, allowed him to capture the essence of fleeting moments and scenes imbued with poetry.
However, throughout his travels, Benoit realized that exoticism is not a prerequisite for beauty or mystery. He discovered that the unexpected could be hidden in the most familiar details, that everyday objects are not simple materials, but bearers of stories and emotions. This revelation led him to explore the streets of his hometown with the same curiosity and wonder that he previously reserved for uncharted territories.
His recent photographs, often taken on a street corner in Vannes or in the privacy of a familiar urban or natural landscape, invite reflection on the mystery of the ordinary and the strangeness of everyday life. Benoit Mortreux reminds us that the marvelous can be found everywhere, as long as we know how to look.
