Alexander Smirnov was born in 1957 in the town of Kolomna, Moscow region.
After service in the Army He roved about Russian roads as a driver of the truck during few years till the fate brought him to the Art Studio of the Kolomna “Diesel Locomotive Works”.
Here Alexander evinced great talent of the designer and the artist. Due to this fact he held the post of the Art-adviser of the Studio at the biggest Works of Kolomna. In spite of full busy Alexander found the time for training in painting. In order to improve his professional level He entered the All-Union Public University of Arts, and graduated from it with the first Degree in 1986.
Since 1987 A. Smirnov took part in the group exhibitions in Russia and abroad in Canada, South Korea, France, Germany, USA… Then there was the series of personal exhibitions. His works are sailed at the auctions in Europe, America and Asia. The Dutch called Alexander as a Russian Van Gogh for his golden Sunflowers. The bold play of colour, shape, extraordinary expression – all of these make the works of A. Smirnov unexcelled and exquisite.
Alexander traveled much round the native country: Crimea, Caucuses, Baltic and the North. The North – is the whole layer of the artist’s creation. Many his works are devoted to the beauties of nature of this unsullied Land.
In 2001 Alexander Smirnov became a member of the All-Russia Union of Artists and since that time the new stage of creation has been started for him.
Alexander began to paint in tempera. His works in tempera are remarkable for fine performance, sharp intensity of apprehension and rich inner content. They are “lucid” and “full of the air”.
The Artist also turns to the portrait painting, where we can see the barefaced soul of the character, which the author revealed tactfully and with great love.
The searches of the last period were given with a high appreciation during the Regional Russia Exhibition in 2003 in Lipetsk city.
Nowadays the works of the Artist are in the Galleries and Private collections of Russia, France, Spain, Germany, England, USA and many others.
