Wild Trees and Botanicals
Growing up in northern Wisconsin put me early in touch with the magic of trees. An
undergraduate degree in Art Ed and a graduate degree in Printmaking, from the Universities of Wisconsin, Oshkosh and Superior, respectively, launched my career as an artist and art educator. Along with participation in exhibits and shows as well as teaching, I am co-founder of Art by Choice books
My current town was originally called Thicketville because of its abundance of dense growth--wild trees, bushes and vines.
Filling many sketchbooks with images seen from my back window, I began to notice the spaces in between tree branches--seeming to create patterns. Taking the concept of spaces (between branches) as irregular patterns a step further, I translated many drawings onto vellum, using watercolor marker and paint marker. Points of color resulted in interactive hues, which best presented my point of view.
Indoor botanicals are also presented in points of color on vellum. I chose plants that particularly revealed lightness, poise and movement.
