Michelle AUBOIRON is a French artist, living in Paris, who is graduated from both the "Ecole Nationale des Arts Appliqués"- Paris 1965 - and the "Ecole Boule" - Paris 1967.

After having worked 15 years in the fields of Architecture and Design, Michelle AUBOIRON decided to devote herself to painting…

For the past 20 years, Michelle Auboiron has been producing direct and "in situ" painting series in Paris and around the world with, as her central and recurrent theme, Architecture and structures in the broadest sense of the term.
Most of the time, Michelle chooses to create her series of paintings in a short lapse of time – one day, one painting – sometimes two....
In 1999 alone, Michelle Auboiron was able to express her talent in France, but also in Belgium, in different locations through the 1999 "Paris-Dakar" race, in Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal, and Morocco. This performance was subject to several live reports on the national TV networks "France 2" and "France 3" both in January and February of 1999 from, amongst other places, Rabat, Bir Morgrein, Nouackchott and Dakar.

The year 2000 was devoted to a large series of 116 paintings inside the Paris “Garnier” opera, followed by two large exhibitions in November 2000 and March 2001 in the "Nesle" Gallery in Paris, and in the Art Gallery of the Paris-Orly West Airport.

In 2001, Michelle Auboiron was yearning for large open spaces…

2001: The "Colorado" project

"It was in the fall of 2OO1, to avoid the worst of the heat, that I chose to tackle Colorado. Planning a 5O day trip, I began with the Grand Canyon - "a painter's nightmare" according to David Hockney (I would not deny this) - and followed with the Page (Arizona) and Moab (Utah) areas with some obligatory detours, following John Ford's tracks at Monument Valley, and venturing into the fiery furnace of Death Valley. Over 7 weeks, regardless of atmospheric conditions, equipped with a pickup vehicle and lodging in motels, I painted a set of 4O large, acrylic canvases that depict the amazing natural architecture of the area. In absolute contrast, it was in Las Vegas, an artificial oasis in the depth of the desert, with its kitsch and delirious motels, that I ended my "artistic marathon.

In Las Vegas, far beyond the contemporary, excessive and Hollywoodian architecture of the casino-resorts, the 50’s motels inspired me. They bring to mind the pioneer spirit of America.

In the heart of the desert and imposing landscapes, their architecture of necessity without aesthetic calculation, formerly conceived to seduce at all cost the visitor in quest of fortune, vie in daring colors with a commercial twist…”

Throughout the performance, a road-book was updated on a daily basis from the motels and posted on the internet site . This was done by Michelle's friend Charles Guy, who was also cameraman and photographer along their 6,OOO mile-long trip, enabling hundreds of Michelle's collectors and friends to follow the performance day after day.

Upon her return to Paris, Michelle Auboiron continued to work on the "Colorado" series in a studio, and won the "Colas Foundation" price, 2002 with a painting called "Scenic road". This painting was a synthesis of the emotions and sensations absorbed during her trip in Western America.

In April and June of 2002, two large exhibitions of the "Colorado" series were set up in the "Nesle" Gallery in Paris, and in the Art Gallery of the Paris-Orly West Airport respectively. The remarkable success of both these exhibitions deserves to be pointed out in this timid arts market period.

Currently, Michelle Auboiron is working on a large series of paintings revolving around the famous bridges of Paris, New York, and San Francisco… due for her next exhibition in Paris at the beginning of 2004.

Totally immerged in daily reality, that of the street and newspaper headlines, that of the architecture of cities and places she visits, she gathers information endlessly, and, suddenly, she "focuses". Then, filled with all the atmospheres she has absorbed, she paints with rapid brush strokes, only inspired by feelings and intuition. From this "Polaroid-view", emerges a piece of art, both powerful and sensible, where the essence of the figurative and the vigorousness of the abstract are reconciled. If Michelle Auboiron often chooses to make series of paintings in a short laps of time, it is to better reflect the instability of lights and emotions."
