Jon Johnson was born in Placerville, California in 1967 to a family of artists and musicians. Growing up in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains instilled in him a keen awareness of the painterly beauty in all of nature, along with a desire to capture this beauty in his artwork.

Being a polymath genius, Jon very early in life developed multiple talents, all related to creativity. His interests in invention, art, music, botany, zoology and philosophy caused him to be continually engaged in challenging projects. It was important to excell in all things. This desire to push beyond the boundaries of ordinary achiement was carried forward into his art.

In early adulthood, Jon pursued his education in art. Earning a degree in Fine Arts through Yuba College in California, he also briefly attended Walla Walla College in Washinton and Chico State University in California. He studied for six months under Michael Valdez, an illustrator for Sunset Magazine.

Although Jon has a considerable amount of formal training in his field, most of his abilities are a result of personal experimentation. He is almost completely self-taught in his style and methods, having invented many unique artistic techniques that he has passed on to many of his own students and fellow artists.

Jon currently resides in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Northern California, where he shares his 5-acre estate with a large population of native wildlife and with his poetically and musically gifted mother.
