Baboute, born in 1969 in Saint-Etienne, is an contemporary artist skilled in both painting and sculpture. He pursued his studies in fine arts at Saint-Etienne from 1992 to 1996, during which time he found inspiration in the works of Henri Matisse and Claude Viallat, whose influences would shape his artistic direction.
Residing and creating in his hometown of Saint-Etienne, Baboute's artistic journey was guided by mentors Philippe Louisgrand and Philippe Favier, under whose tutelage he graduated in 1996. His artistic roots, however, trace back to his family's involvement in the textile industry during the 1980s. It was during this period that he began to experiment with reclaiming materials, such as umbrella canvases, to form the foundations of his creations. As the 1990s unfolded, a recurring pattern began to emerge in his evolving body of work.
Central to Baboute's paintings is a profound connection to the depiction of women, which carries historical significance and an air of mystery. Through skillful juxtaposition of figures and forms, his canvases give rise to enigmatic beings that beckon without a name.
