Nicolas Remy

Born in 1979 in the Ardennes, Nicolas Remy has been a designer since a very young age. First influenced by comics, (Franquin and Chaland are his first mentors) he went to Liège to perfect his background as a self-taught artist by taking illustration courses at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.

Gradually, his drawing became clearer and his influences extended to other artists: Charles Burns, Robert Crumb, Lucian Freud, Diego Rivera and Norman Rockwell. Nicolas Remy's art oscillates between drawing and painting, mixing familiar and fantastic realism, all in an underground "rock 'n roll" wave. The subjects represented range from “pop” stars (from Michael Jackson to…. Pierre Bellemare) to dictators and serial killers (Josip Broz Tito, Jeffrey Dahmer, Charles Manson…) as well as a few portraits and self-portraits, often raw and without artifice, such mugshots, these mug shots, which leave no room for embellishment of the subject...
