Dita Lūse is an award-winning artist based in Latvia, whose artworks have been exhibited internationally. She has studied at the Art Academy of Latvia and University of Wisconsin and has had over 30 solo shows and participated in numerous group shows. Dita Lūse is a painter and works in oil on canvas, in a manner which resembles watercolour painting - with thin washes in multiple layers. While her art explores diverse subjects, the recurring theme is the relation between light and time. Luse often depicts spaces that are laden with memories, highlighting the depth and atmosphere that light creates. Her engaging compositions fuse realism with impressionism and conceptual art. The works by the artist cover themes such as the interplay of light and shadow in interiors, the enigmatic characters of X-ray images and the depiction of multi-layered memories in the works of the recent years.

ArtVilnius is the only contemporary art fair in Lithuania and the largest art fair in the Eastern Europe region. ArtVilnius, which had its start in 2009, was one of the most important events in the Vilnius – European Capital of Culture project. Over the last eight years the art fair has expanded and become firmly established on the local and international art scene, as well as on the list of must-visit events for art lovers.
This is also confirmed by the statistics. Every year ArtVilnius has over 20,000 visitors, with about 60 art galleries from a dozen or so countries participating ((Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus, the Netherlands, Russia, Italy, and France). The applications of galleries wishing to participate in the art fair are reviewed and selected by a jury made up of art critics and art market experts, thereby ensuring the professionalism of the galleries at the fair.

This section displays artworks by artists selected from last year’s “International Artist Grand Prize Competition.” Along with the First Prize winner of 2015 Kurma Venkata Siva Prasad, a self-taught painter, there are Khaled Zaki, who had represented Egypt to exhibit in the Venice Biennale 2013; Denis Mikhaylov, a Russian artist integrating classic motif into contemporary thinking and having collectors across Europe and America; Dita Luse, a Latvian artist versed in using light and shade to depict the architectures or sculptures of the Middle Ages. Three famous Hungarian artists also exhibit: Endre László Szász, László Gulyás, and Zsolt Fekete.
