The pictorial universe of Henri Blouet, self-taught painter born in 1936, asserted itself during an artistic life nourished by meetings, exchanges and permanent research to survey the paths already opened by the great moderns and find its own way.
This journey was punctuated by periods ranging from adolescent learning with the copying of works by great masters followed by the affirmation of an already personal vision: automatic painting, narrative painting, anecdotal, autobiographical painting, dreamlike painting, premonitory painting to reach the current stage beyond any representation.
Henri Blouet was able to capture the beauty of the world in the figurative works that punctuate his career. The current culmination of his approach opens onto another world which reveals "unreal visual perceptions" in which any similarity with existing figures, shapes or beings would be a coincidence... or a figment of the mind!
His works of the last 10 years are part of an original approach that could be called "lyrical chromatism", an approach in which elaboration and execution confirm a personal "paw" outside fashions and schools.
He recognizes himself in the conviction of Paul Klee stated in his "Theory of Modern Art":
"The artist does not grant the appearances of nature the same constraining importance as his many realistic detractors. He does not feel so subjugated to them, the fixed forms not representing in his eyes the essence of the creative process in the nature"
He wants to be the painter of elementary energy, of the confrontation of opposites, of the triumph of alliances, of the confusion of genres, of the dynamics of lines and colors, of the imposition of chance, of the requirement of the necessity, of the absolute of the unsaid and of the pre-eminence of a revealed life.
The search for the ideal painting, "one that looks like it painted itself", as Emil Nolde defined it, is a unique adventure, renewed each time. She springs from nothingness after a gestation which seems to her almost immediate but which began the day, a long time ago, when her brush caressed the unfathomable white of her first canvas.
