Digital art refers to any artistic work that uses digital technology in its creation or presentation process. Despite initial resistance, the digital revolution has transformed many artistic disciplines, including literature, painting, writing, sculpture, music/sound... New digital art forms, such as digital art installations and virtual reality, have also been recognized as art forms. Digital artists are those who use digital technologies to create art. Digital art can also be defined as contemporary art made using digital media or mass production. Digital art can be computer-generated (e.g. fractals or algorithmic art) or come from other sources, such as a scan of a photograph or an image created using vector graphics software with a mouse or graphics tablets. Although technically the term can be used to describe art created using other media and processes, it is reserved for art that has not been trivially altered by a computer process, such as a computer program. Digital painting is when artworks are created in the same way as non-digital paintings, but by using software on a computer platform and outputting the image digitally as if it were painted on a canvas. Andy Warhol created digital artworks using a Commodore Amiga. This computer was first presented to the public at Lincoln Center in New York in 1987. A monochrome image of Debbie Harry was taken with a video camera. The scanned image is then converted into a graphics program called ProPaint. Warhol added color to the image. While there are many opinions about the impact of digital technology on the arts and its advantages and disadvantages, the digital art community agrees that it has "greatly expanded the sphere of creation", meaning that professional and amateur artists have many more creative options.
