Jean-Michel Basquiat was an American artist who rose to fame in the 1980s with his dynamic and expressive paintings. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1960, Basquiat began his career as a graffiti artist, working under the name SAMO.
In the 1980s, Basquiat transitioned to the art world, creating large-scale paintings that incorporated a range of media, including paint, marker, and collage. His work often featured bold imagery and text, drawing on a variety of cultural influences, from African masks and Caribbean folklore to jazz and hip hop.
Basquiat's work explored themes of race, identity, and social inequality, challenging traditional notions of art and drawing attention to the experiences of marginalized communities. His legacy continues to inspire and influence artists and art lovers around the world.
Sadly, Basquiat passed away at the young age of 27, but his impact on the art world continues to be felt today.
