Do you love Chinese paintings?
Traditional Chinese painting is an art form that uses silk, ink, and a brush. It can be divided into three main genres: flower and bird painting, landscape painting, and portrait painting.
In the Spring and Autumn Period (770 - 886), the genre of birds-and-flowers painting emerged. This genre combines images of flowers and insects, and is known for its colorful, decorative patterns on pottery.
Landscape painting also developed in the period. Artists such as Guan Tong and Dong Yuan depicted monumental peaks in the north and the lush rolling hills in the south.
Another painting style was Gongbi, which translates to "precise". The artist used highly detailed brushstrokes to depict figurative subjects and narrative topics. Many royal court painters practiced this technique.
Although there were many different techniques, most of these artists practiced on a traditional xuan paper. These paintings were typically about 70 feet long or longer. They could be hung on a wall or used as a handscroll.
After the Tang Dynasty, a new style of Chinese painting began. This was influenced by Western painting techniques. A group of painters, including Li Keran, Huang Yongyu, and Wu Guanzhong, revived a fresh talent.
Some of the most famous paintings of the Warring States Period include the famous Five Oxen, which demonstrates the extraordinary detail of its artists. The five oxen are depicted in a variety of poses and in earthy brushstrokes.
During the Ming Dynasty, artists started to appreciate the beauty of women's bodies. Zheng Banqiao, one of the most famous painters in the Qing Dynasty, was proficient at drawing chrysanthemums and orchids.
