No rio Sado – rio português que escoa de sueste para noroeste de Portugal (da Serra da Vigia para Setúbal) - a pesca é feita de modo artesanal e em barcos de pequeno porte.
O porto Palafítico do Biscainho-Gâmbia é um dos lugares com maior concentração de pescadores e de actividade piscatória artesanal. Sobre as zonas de sapal, os pescadores construíram complexas estruturas montadas sobre estacas de madeira: os portos Palafíticos.. Com características artesanais, estes portos são usados por gerações de pescadores, que ainda atracam ali os seus barcos a estacas (paus em madeira fixos ao fundo lodoso do rio), que ali existem há dezenas de anos.
Para além disso, o portinho da Gambia é uma das mais ricas reservas naturais. Aqui poderão ser encontradas várias espécies de aves que aqui nidificam e/ou vêm passar o Inverno…

In the river Sado - a portuguese river that flows from southeast to northwest of Portugal (from Serra da Vigia to Setúbal) - the fishing is done artisanally and in small boats.
The Gambia's Palafitic port is one of the places with the highest concentration of fishermen and artisanal fishing activity. On the salt marshes, the fishermen have built complex structures built on wooden stakes: the Palafitic ports. With craft features, these ports are used by generations of fishermen, who still attach their boats there to stakes (wood sticks fixed to the muddy bottom of the river), which have been there for dozens of years.
