Anne-Lise Juhel was born in 1956 in Alençon, in Normandy where she currently lives. This small town, heritage of lace and the cradle of numerous exhibitions in connection with fashion, was certainly for many at the origin of its attraction for everything related directly or indirectly to textiles.
From 1979 to 2002, she was a teacher and master trainer in an elementary school. For 5 years, she actively participated in the training of students at the IUFM in Alençon, particularly in the context of literature and plastic arts.
This training as a teacher and a personal taste led her to love and respect the object-book… paper… papers… old papers… and to regularly practice the plastic arts by leading projects with young children and children. not so young, future teachers ...
It was after the participation in 2005 in a workshop led by an artist who practices collage using papers and recovered objects that the trigger occurred. She got started… and now devotes all her time to it.
Two “materials”, lace and old paper, naturally emerged for his personal creations. She likes to feel them, touch them, mistreat them while handling them with care, and seeks to give them another life by marrying them together. It collects, it sorts, it cuts, it cuts, it tears, it assembles, it glues, it coats, it dyes and it waxes… .with great relentlessness and stubbornness.
After having used engravings, manuscripts and sheet music, she now mainly uses recycled wallpapers and old photos that she appropriates by transforming them with the digital tool. During the making of his paintings, a dialogue is established ... The characters come to life and tell each other. For her, they are both a gateway to memory, witnesses to memory and a trace of past time… of passing time.
