Annelies Adriaensen
Annelies Adriaensen was born in Belgium and since 2005 lives and works in the south of France. She has found the workshop of her dreams in the eastern pyrenees in the village of Molitg-les-bains. It’s a large bright workshop with wonderful view over the mountains. Since she was 8 years old she has been drawing, painting and working with clay. After studying at the Art School in Bruges, Annelies went to the Academy of Art University in Anwerp, Belgium, to study sculpture.
In 2014 she won the prize "new talent in sculpture" at the festival of contemporary art in Cannes. In 2015 she was selected to show her bronze sculpture "Maternity" at the exhibition of the "Société National des Beaux Arts" in Paris. In 2016 she went for a two month residency in Belgium where she created a 6 feet high sculpture of a young african woman in plaster and wood called "Africa". In 2018 she began a new series of work in collaboration with her ceramist collegue Marie-Line Marsaux. In this she combines ceramics with sculpture and painting creating very unique, playful coloured small pieces of art. They were exhibited in the famous "Gallerie des Hospices" in Canet-en-Roussillon near Perpignan.

Durant cette exposition seront exposé mes dernières oeuvres peints et déssinées. Cette exposition se visitera comme un livre qui se lis, comme un rêve qui se déploie sous nos yeux, comme une vision de toutes nos vies qui habitent à l'intérieur de notre corps, coeur, âme et esprit et mémoire ... Un voyage vers nos subconscients qui sont tous reliés dans les dimensions invisibles de notre être.

Premières expérimentations entre pays plat et hauts sommets
Née en Belgique mais entretenant depuis son enfance une relation féconde avec un village profondément enfoncé des Pyrénées, Annelies Adriaensen est une artiste sensible et profonde qui nous propose un univers pictural puissant. Après des études d’art en Belgique et en République Tchèque, elle ressent une forte appétence pour la sculpture, qu’elle pratique en créant des portraits d’une grande technicité. Puis elle pratique plusieurs genres, autour du paysage et du carnet de voyage, en peinture et en photographie, avant que son style personnel s’affirme véritablement ces dernières années à travers ses dernières séries. Elle vit et travaille désormais au sein de ces montagnes pyrénéennes qu’elle a retrouvées de longue date et qui ont constitué, constituent et constitueront toujours l’arrière-plan de son travail artistique.
De « moi » au « jeu » pictural et photographique
Autofiction, « narrations individuelles » seraient les « cases » dans lesquelles on serait volontiers tenté de la circonscrire. Toute œuvre est par essence à la fois fictionnelle et biographique, et le genre est actuellement en passe de devenir presque « classique ». Mais c’est précisément dans cette tension féconde entre l’invention et le souvenir, à travers les pinceaux, les textes et les clichés qui constituent la pratique de notre artiste, qu’elle parvient à renouveler cette approche. Que l’on regarde attentivement l’un de ses tableaux issus de la série « regards rétrospectifs sur l’enfance » et l’on s’aperçoit immédiatement de la force et de l’évidence du constat d’un passé révolu, mais qui continue à irriguer le présent ! Comme le pressentait Roland Barthes avec la photographie d’archive, de famille, qui constitue la base du travail pictural d’Annelies Adriaensen, il y a un rapport mystérieux, à la fois merveilleux et angoissant dans cette relation entre « ce qui a été » sur un cliché, et ce qui reste du souvenir et de l’incarnation d’un moment fondateur. La peinture, comme chez Gerard Richter, permet de trouver la juste distance avec ces « fantômes » du passé, une distance par essence « fictionnalisée » par l’effort même de mise à l’écart du sujet dans le processus de création d’un tableau. Dès lors, que l’on puisse parler de « mémoire involontaire » à la Marcel Proust ou de « réminiscences » de la mémoire, on sent que la qualité, le mystère et le miracle des productions de l’artiste tiennent à ce subtil équilibre, et aussi au fait que les événements relatés semblent à la fois fondamentaux, et anecdotiques : mystères intemporels et fantomatiques, comme définitivement figés sur la toile. Une impression de force, de frontalité douce, d’entre-deux temporalités, émane alors de ce travail pictural dont l’approche contemporaine se signale par la simple expression d’un constat quasi neutre : des enfants dans une vieille voiture, un père qui randonne en famille, des âmes qui sont prises dans l’immensité du paysage… une surface bien lisse et achevée, illusion d’une réalité immédiate, qui nous saute aux yeux et qui pourtant évoque tant d’autres choses… Puis l’appétit de comprendre donne au spectateur frustré de ne pas connaître l’avant et l’après du cliché, ce besoin irrépressible de comprendre ce qui se déroule ici, une possibilité d’interprétation laissé à chacun d’entre nous et que seule la peinture figurative permet à cette hauteur là…
Une expérience singulière et universelle
Depuis très jeune, ayant vécu plusieurs années dans un petit village coupé du reste du monde, Annelies Adriaensen porte donc en elle la vision d’un monde autosuffisant, parfois jusqu’à l’isolement au milieu des montagnes pyrénéennes. A travers la figure omniprésente de son père mais aussi de sa famille en général, à travers des souvenirs partiels réactivés par la découverte d’une riche documentation photographique familiale, elle refait le parcours à l’envers, allant jusqu’à écrire un livre sur cette histoire, son histoire, comme une autre « branche » de son arbre mémoriel où elle peut se permettre d’entrer dans la description détaillée de ses souvenirs. Le rapport qu’entretient d’ailleurs ce texte très personnel et délicat avec sa peinture est évident, notamment à travers les nombreuses phrases qui sont depuis quelques années inscrites sur ses tableaux et témoignent d’une « narration » sous des formes diverses et complémentaires. Dans sa dernière série « D’après photos », elle se permet de plonger plus loin encore dans les événements qu’elle n’a pas forcément vécus, avec des personnes qu’elle ne connaît pas systématiquement, mais qui ont pu avoir une influence sur son enfance, puis sa vie d’adulte et d’artiste. Car le véritable sujet de notre peintre est de nous permettre de toucher du doigt, de manière incarnée, combien sont interconnectés les événements, les gens, et les temporalités. Et combien aussi, il y a eu, pour un temps très court et en partie maintenant perdu, dans le courant de sa jeunesse, une véritable relation universelle à la nature qui, en définitive, donnait du sens et du lien à tout ce qui semble maintenant difficile à saisir, dans l’urgence et le bouillonnement de notre monde. L’histoire d’une communauté humaine qui doit prendre en compte la nature environnante et qui développe un sens de la solidarité et de l’entraide, ce que l’artiste appelle « la bonne vie » et dont elle essaye par sa quête artistique de retrouver les accents et les couleurs. C’est alors tout l’esprit et la philosophie d’une reconnexion et d’un rapport renouvelé au vivant, à la nature, qui émane de cette narration certes personnelle, mais rendue universelle par les moyens de son art.
