About The Painting :
One day Surphanakha, sister of Ravana came to panchavati place and saw Rama. She fell in love with him. She expressed her desire to Rama. Rama rejected and suggested Laxmana. She went to Laxmana and expressed her desire to him. Then with a lot of irritation Laxmana cut her ears and nose. Surphanakha went to her brother Ravana, the demon king and informed him about the humiliation she had in the hands of RAMA and LAXMANA. Ravana called Maricha and revealed his desire to him. He said, " Maricha you go to Panchavati in the guise of a golden deer and mislead her like a real deer". Maricha went to Panchavati as Ravana suggested. As it was expected Sita was attracted by the beauty of the golden deer....
