Alphonse Snoeck is a contemporary Belgian sculptor based in France. He is a master of lines, shapes, and volumes that gracefully interact with the space they inhabit. His sculptural works are a perpetual quest for the elusive state of perfect balance, akin to an immobile choreography set in three dimensions. In Snoeck's creations, lines evolve around an axis, giving birth to rhythms that often converge into captivating visual harmonies.
Beyond his role as a sculptor, Alphonse Snoeck also shares his profound knowledge and passion for the plastic arts as a dedicated teacher. His artistic prowess extends to collaborations with several architectural firms in Liège and Brussels, where he contributes his expertise in creating sculptures integrated seamlessly into contemporary architectural marvels in cities such as Liège, Brussels, and Koblenz.
Among his notable achievements are two monumental sculptures gracing the Open-Air Museum of the Sart-Tilman university domain in Liège. Snoeck's artistic journey led him to Carrara, Italy, where he worked in the renowned Nicolli workshops, chiseling two monumental marble sculptures that stand as enduring testaments to his craftsmanship.
Apart from his sculptural pursuits, Alphonse Snoeck serves as the Director of the cultural association Les Amis de l’Abbaye de Lagrasse in Aude, France, further exemplifying his dedication to the arts.
Throughout his illustrious career, spanning from 1965 to 2019, Alphonse Snoeck has exhibited his works in individual and collective exhibitions across a multitude of cities and venues, including Liège, Verviers, Namur, Charleroi, Ghent, Ostend, Antwerp, Brussels, Maastricht, Strasbourg, Perpignan, Aix-la-Chapelle, Orval Abbey in Belgium, Volterra in Italy, Lagrasse and Narbonne in France, as well as Paris, Toulouse, and Le Boulou.
Alphonse Snoeck's passion for preserving and sharing artistic heritage led to the establishment of the Lagrasse Sculpture and Molding Workshop, specializing in the reproduction of ancient sculptures destined for historical monuments, museums, and private collections. His commitment to this cause further extended to co-founding the "Association for the Knowledge and Conservation of Works of Art in Languedoc-Roussillon," collaborating on exhibitions and research projects related to Romanesque sculpture across various European regions.
Snoeck also played a pivotal role in the creation of a museum dedicated to reproductions of the 12th-century works of the Master of Cabestany, housed in the town hall of Cabestany near Perpignan. His ten-year program focused on researching and reproducing all known works in Languedoc-Roussillon, Catalonia, and Tuscany, shedding light on the rich tapestry of Romanesque heritage.
In addition to his artistic endeavors, Alphonse Snoeck was a founding member of "Les Imagiers," a professional group of art workshops, and served as Vice-President of the Association "Friends of Fontfroide Abbey." His contributions extended to membership in the scientific committee of Fontfroide Abbey, reflecting his unwavering commitment to the preservation and celebration of cultural heritage.
