Elena Kovalskaya is a russian-polish artist.
Inspired by impressionists’ tradition, in her work she tries to capture atmospheres, dynamics, and light. The main sources of the inspiration for her work are nature and travelling - Elena literally makes her own collection of impressions from nature’s details and special places from different parts of the world - France, Italy, Russia, Bali and others. Main plots of her paintings are landscapes, water and flowers - things that are in a state of constant, both visible and invisible, change. That helps artist to catch nontrivial moods and states.
In her style the artist follows and develops the tradition of russian painters of the silver century - mostly Korovin and Malyavin - vivid colours, thick strokes, vibrating and decorative surface. But she also studies and practises methods of eastern painting tradition, which enriched her artistic toolkit with subtle feeling of monochromatic depiction, freedom and lively imperfection of lines, meditative mood.
While mostly using painting as media, she experiments with different techniques - oil, acryl, texture paste, pastel.
Artist’s works are held in private collections in Belgium, Germany, Poland, Canada, Spain.
