This is a painting that I started for myself; I hadn't painted many flowers before and thought I might as well give it a shot. This is a painting that I started for myself; I hadn't painted many flowers before and thought I might as well give it a shot. I chose to work from a photograph that I had of roses that I thought were beautiful. Besides, it was cold at the time and I couldn't have worked from life even if I wanted to. The work on this painting went on and on, tin layers of acrylic on a nice pit of textured paper. But, work was interrupted by a family funeral. I was devastated. A cousin of mine was kind enough to fly me home for the service and in return I gave them this painting, which I had grown to love. That's why I consider it 'sold'; Thanks a lot cousin.

Oberlin has always been an artist, developing a love for fountain pens at an early age and deciding to train both hands to draw. They had heard adults talk about a spooky thing called ‘arthritis’. The artist is now ambidextrous.

Oberlin began having seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy during their freshman year of college. Art helped tremendously.

Some of Oberlin’s paintings come from sketches. Some of the paintings are scenes and shapes that mutate from color. The commonality is expression. The sketches themselves come from dreams and conversations. Some of these ideas have ruminated for months or years. Others happened in a flash.

Any of the art that you see may have since been painted over, traded, donated, given away, eaten, burned, buried or destroyed.
