François Garros est né le 6-11-1949 dans la Vienne, au village du Vigeant. Il vit près de La Rochelle, à Nieul Sur Mer. Il se reconnaît d’abord comme poète. Fonde avec d’autres poètes l’association Contre-Temps à La Rochelle, l’anime de 1983 à 1998. Participe à l’organisation de rencontres nationales sur la poésie et sur le roman. Publie différents ouvrages dans le domaine poétique à partir de 1985. A partir de 1998 recherche la collaboration de photographes, musiciens, et de plasticiens. Animateur d’ateliers d’écriture depuis 1995. En 1997, tout en continuant à écrire, se lance de façon solitaire dans la peinture, puis rencontre le peintre abstrait contemporain Alain Villepigue, qui l’encourage dans ses recherches plastiques. Expose à partir de 2002, notamment, à Limoges, dans le Lot, La Rochelle et Paris.

François Garros a publié à ce jour de nombreux livres et recueils poétiques, parmi lesquels : Mémoire Toile, Arcam Paris, 1985 ; à La Bartavelle, Le Métier du Regard (1987), Voce Sostenuta (1991) ; à Encres Vives (Michel Cosem) Bois Noircis (1995), Embrasure d’Olt (1996), La résonance de l'amour I II III (1998,1999), Le Pays d'Encre (2000), La pauvreté du feu, l’empreinte lotoise, Vent de cazelles (2001), J’écrivais le cytise … (2002), avec un premier travail graphique de F. Garros, Calvignac après l’orage (2004), Entre ciel et terre, Jardin d’Irak le soir (2004), Eclaircie d’arbres bleus (2005) ; chez Océanes, Le soleil disparu (1995), Le travail du sable (1997) ; chez Rafael de Surtis, Monemvassia (1998) ; aux éditions Etre et Connaître, 12 Variations pour la ville (2004), avec une peinture de F.
