Dominique de Bellefroid is a contemporary Belgian painter. Trained in the art of styling, her enduring fascination with textiles and weaving leaves an indelible mark on her creations, often opting to paint on the unprocessed linen side of the canvas to allow the weft to peek through, creating spontaneous patterns amid the applied colors.
Balancing between the realms of figurative and abstract, her creative choices are predominantly guided by her acute sensitivity to color and her natural spontaneity. This approach grants her the liberty to experiment with a range of materials and mediums, from delicate oil glazes to bold oil sticks.
Following a journey to Japan that kindled her fascination with printed skies, she redirected her exploration to master the nuances of color gradients, deftly juxtaposing and sometimes layering them in successive coats of glaze, a meticulous process that can span several months for a single artwork.
At the heart of all her pieces radiates an overwhelming sense of joy, a pulsating emotion intrinsic to her essence, which she diligently strives to resonate throughout her artistry.
