Doina Botez

Doina Botez è nata a Bucarest nel 1951. Ha conseguito la laurea in Belle Arti nel 1975, con la borsa di merito "Ion Andreescu" vinta nel 1974, presso l'Istituto Universitario "Nicolae Grigorescu" di Bucarest.
Si dedica all'illustrazione dei libri, soprattutto per bambini, oltre alla pittura e alla grafica, e diventa anche scenografa della casa cinematografica rumena di cartoni animati Animafilm.
Fin dal 1974 partecipa alle esposizioni collettive organizzate dall'Ordine degli Artisti di Romania.
Nel 1984 le viene conferita una borsa di studio, in Italia, nel quadro dell'accordo culturale italo-rumeno.
Riesce ad esprimere, nella sua opera, anche alcuni aspetti tragici della dittatura, fino alle ammonizioni per le illustrazioni dei versi della poetessa dissidente Ana Blandiana.
Dal 1989 vive e lavora a Roma. Diventa cittadina italiana nel 2004.
Nel gennaio 1996, su invito del Governo Rumeno, in occasione della mostra "Monumenta Romaniae Vaticana", esegue un'interpretazione della "Madonna Rumena" quale dono a Sua Santità Giovanni Paolo II.
Nel 2000 realizza l'opera monumentale raffigurante un baccanale con personaggi e simboli tipici del corteo dionisiaco, dipinto che orna una delle cupole delle grotte d'invecchiamento ed affinamento della cantina d'arte della casa vinicola Mastroberardino.
Nel 2009, per la mostra personale „Nosce te ipsum”, nella Sala delle Colonne di Castel Sant’Angelo in Roma, riceve il patrocinio della Soprintendenza Speciale per il Patrimonio Storico Artistico ed Etnoantropologico e per il Polo Museale della Città di Roma.
Nel 2013 Skira Editore ha pubblicato l’album monografico “Doina Botez, Il corpo dell’immagine, opere 1989 -2013” a cura di Flaminio Gualdoni.
