Tim Malone studierte Bildende Kunst in Südafrika und arbeitete anschließend fast 40 Jahre als preisgekrönter Werbekunst- und Kreativdirektor. Diese Erfahrung bestimmt nun seinen künstlerischen Prozess. Sein Ansatz zur Malerei spiegelt den Prozess wider, in dem Layouts für Printwerbung entwickelt werden; jede Ergänzung, Löschung oder Änderung an einem Teil des Werks wirkt sich auf alle anderen Teile aus. Das bedeutet, dass durch die Lösung eines Konstruktionsproblems oft andere entstehen, bis schließlich ein ausgewogenes Ergebnis erzielt wird.
Obwohl Tims Arbeit manchmal ungegenständlich ist, wird sie immer von der sozialen Komplexität, den Farben, Formen und Texturen der Orte beeinflusst, an denen er gelebt und gearbeitet hat – Südafrika, Saudi-Arabien, England und Portugal.
Tim arbeitet mit Acryl auf Leinwand, Papier und Karton und schafft Details mit einer Vielzahl anderer Medien. Ein Großteil seiner Arbeiten ist vorzugsweise heißgepresstes Aquarellpapier, das leicht saugfähig ist, aber es ermöglicht, dass die Farbe relativ leicht über die Oberfläche bewegt wird.
