Face to Face (2019) Sculpture by Christophe Bregnard

In the installation Face to Face, which the artist has
created especially for the exhibition at POPA,
the viewer is truly part of the work.
He enters a circular space where nature has
disappeared to give way to an industrial world,
barely capable of evoking a flower or a tree.
Face to Face invites a symbolic reading
thorough. Indeed, from 2014, the artist
regularly refers to the symbolism of numbers,
whose organizing and structuring power he perceives.
One of them, the number seven, is particularly
present in his work. Mystical cipher (in the
Hebrew tradition, the seven-branched candlestick
personifies divinity and light) and symbol of
the totality of the universe (in the Christian tradition,
the world was created in seven days), the value "seven"
determines, for example, the number of mirrors
in Dead Sea and flowers in Face to Face. As to
to the number six which fixed the hexagonal shape of the
mirrors, it is inspired by the structure of the cradle, a
wild flower of our regions. In geometry
sacred to the artist, the hexagon also embodies the
transition between the square and the round, between the earthy
and the spiritual. The transition in turn symbolizes a
passage, a stage, a becoming.
Cycles, Dead Sea, Sky Reflect and Face to Face form
a set of works where the mirror plays a role
determining. Erected, it is not without evoking the
psyche. However, in the French language, the psyche
also refers to the soul. The seven giant flowers that
make up Face to Face appear as so many
of psyches returning to man his responsibility
towards nature. These oversized flowers can
also include parabolic antennas capable of
capture our desires and questions, while
