Cassia was born in 1969 in Juiz de Fora, Brazil.
The artist began her artistic career as a painter after she finished her bachelor degree in Arts at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, in 1994. In 1996, she concluded a specialisation in Graphic Design and 1997, she obtained a Masters degree in Marketing at the Machado Sobrinho School, in Brazil. Afterwards, she continued working contemporaneously in artistic scope and graphic design.
The year of 1998 marked the beginning of her work with mosaic. At that time, inspired by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, Cassia started using ceramic tiles, and fell in love with this art form.
In 2001/2002 she got the title of Mosaicist Poser, in Ravenna. There, she improved her knowledge by having the opportunity to study with the great masters of modern mosaic of the city .
Currently, Cassia develops her work in a very personal way, mixing the Brazilian experience with that acquired in Ravenna. She usually explores many possibilities of combinations between the tesserae and other materials such as iron, wood, cork and photography.
Besides the classic Venetian glass and marble, she also uses murrine, stones, shells, as well as other materials to enhance her work .
Some elements of nature, as well as the use of warm colours presented in her work, are the results of the artist's journey between Brazil and Australia, where part of her family lives.
Since 2007 Cassia lives and works in Trento.
