SOUTHWEST, FINIS TERRAE.

It was here that I rediscovered the sea.
Something opened up in me, lost among these open spaces. Maybe because I'm above it, maybe because I'm protected from this endless sea, which scares. Perhaps you are carried away by the sound of the sea that returns at an inconstant rhythm. Or attracted by the light from the lighthouse, which always returns constantly. I like to stop, sit on the rocks that plunge dizzily into the sea, let myself be rocked by the wind, contemplate the cloudy horizon, aware that nothing is going to change. Nobody will arrive. Nor will the mass of water in the ocean be disturbed, even if it is agitated, and let the sun set or go beyond the reddish clouds, preserving its light.
I experienced the icy water, the strong currents that pull us offshore even if they are enclosed between imposing walls or skim long beaches, in wide or restricted bays...
But why here?
The rocks also fall firmly in other places. Further north the wind blows more insidiously, towards the east the vastness is more desolate. The land ends at every point further west along the coast.
Maybe that's why: because to the wild forces that regulate everything further north, there is added the tepidity of the south, the warmth of people who are still as we were and can still try to be. Humble and rich. No panting…

Here I have rediscovered the sea. Certainly something has opened in me, lost in these open spaces. Perhaps because I am above it, perhaps because I am sheltered from this wide sea which frightens. Perhaps I am enraptured by the lapping of the sea which returns with an uneven rhythm. Or attracted by the beam of the lighthouse which returns constantly. I like to stop, sit the rocks which plunge down to the sea, let myself be windswept, gaze at the blurred horizon, aware that nothing will change, nobody will arrive, nor will the mass of water be disturbed even if it is ruffled and let the sun drop down or beyond the reddened clouds and keep its light.
