This is a high-magnification photograph of the Orchid 'Phalaenopsis', taken in natural light, without manipulation. It is presented as a Framed, Single-Edition Giclée Print.
Subject matter is unrecognisable at high magnification. Images are abstract and arbitrary. Those I capture are ones that seem to have immediate, instinctive appeal. In practice, this amounts to capturing images that are metaphorical - expressing ideas.
In this case the metaphor is 'Nurture' - something is being looked after and nourished with affection. This is the first such image in a series of three.
Barrie Dale is a self-taught artist and photographer from the United Kingdom who is unconcerned about generating technically flawless images. He is simply concerned with instilling in others a deep appreciation for the natural world's beauty. The art of photography appears to be on the verge of being overtaken by technology. Many technically faultless modern images, he believes, are devoid of emotion. He sees that as a trap, and he tries to stay away from it.
His photography definitely depicts a flower, but it also immediately conjures up images of a girl or young woman dressed up for a party. Alternatively, the poise could imply a ballet dancer. His main interest, on the other hand, is elsewhere. The flower's interior is a brilliant, gleaming white. It works similarly to a telescope in that it catches the light. The center of the flower is so illuminating the translucent petals, giving the front of the picture a clean, delicate, and fragile edge.
