Since 1975, Mary Ann's works have brought much attention to the art viewing public. Emerging with the "Ladies" series, she sensuously depicted the "femme fatale" figure on large canvases with oils and on paper, pastels. These works are available today by reproduction.
To satisfy a desire to paint visual legerdemain, she produces fantasy still lifes with objects d'art. This style surfaced recently in the "Falling Fruit thru Clouds" series of paintings and pastels.
In 1986, she broke her realists boundaries with a series of works mixing realism and abstract composition. Works on paper , "Legs and "Luvs" evolved leading to the non-representional series "Exploration". Fields of sensual color, impasto lines of movement, glimmers of glitter and cut glass jewels come together for an opulent celestial voyage. Her tones of color are uplifting and the use of mineral stones are
nu-age in spirit.
She has come full circle to the "Resolution" series of abstract-realism works; combining acrylic with attachments and photo releases to include horses, riders, leaves, the sea, eco-animal awareness, beaches and figures on canvas and wood, on paper - silk screen and collage.

I use color as a powerful yet subliminal stimulus. The hues and tones are meant to arouse the brain in a harmonious way. Emerging as a realist, traveling thru abstraction, I have come full circle to abstract-realism.
I feel my work incorporates the "Elements" - air, earth, fire, water and beyond in the Falling Fruit thru Clouds, Eco-Animal Awareness, sensual legs - Mini Legs and Luvs, Beaches and nu-age abstracts - Exploration series. 50 of my works spanning 28 years have been recently digitized with 5 pages of insightful text journeying my creations to date, "Art by Mal - retrospectively". Also, a 12 minute dvd based on the book is available.

Centro Cultural De Los Artistas, Buenos Aires 2003 - Her creations are filled with sensual color, form, and movement. Employing the eclectic use of mixed mediums in an abstract-realism genre, MAL is an artist extraordinare.
Caelum Gallery, NYC 1997 - Philadelphia artist, Mary Ann Leitch plays off strict abstract, geometric forms with a playful use of mixed media, such as semi precious stones, glitter and string. She also balances flat acrylic painting, three-dimensional objects and imagined atmospheric effects. There is a non of the ponderousness that besets so much abstract art. She elevates everyday objects into materials for making art.
Sassafras International Gallery, Phila 1992
Her now famous painting, "Welcome to my Quilt", hangs in Sassafras after fourteen years and still inspires compliments and notoriety. Mary Ann, the once Olde City artist, has traveled through a period of marked transition in style which is evident in her latest work. She has made the successful journey from realism to the abstract using mixed media on canvas. Her show, "The Exploration" series incorporates acrylic medium and a mix of glitter, metallic powders, rhinestones and mineral stones.
Suzanne Gross Gallery, Phila 1979
Using a certain light, a certain positioning of the figure, she establishes a mood. She makes a statement that can be as bold as Warhol, as exotic as Matisse, as titilating as Courbet. Through her aesthetics, Mary Ann expresses the assertive and sensuous aspects of today's women.
